Faculty Bio

Julie Leftwich Beales, MD, PhD, MSHA  is an Assistant Professor in the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health Administration Department. She graduated from VCU with a PhD in Immunology and an MD from the VCU School of Medicine followed by an Internship in Medicine and a Fellowship in Geriatrics.  In addition, she received a MSHA from the VCU Department of Health Administration.

Before joining VCU, Dr. Beales spent her medical career at the Richmond Virginia Medical Center (VAMC).  Initially a provider in the Geriatrics Department, she spent several years as the Chair of that department before spending 15 years as the Chief of Staff at the Richmond VAMC. Dr. Beales has a passion for elders, end of life care,  interdisciplinary care, and care coordination.
