Byron Hunter, PhD
Adjunct Professor
Dr. Byron Hunter is a native of Dallas, TX. He is a board-certified, public-health trained, healthcare administrator with experience across the continuum of care (inpatient, ambulatory, and community-based settings). He earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Health (Health System Management) from Dillard University, one of the nation’s oldest HBCUs; Masters of Public Health (Healthcare Management & Policy) from Yale University; and a PhD in Health Studies (Health Education, Population Health) from Texas Woman’s University.
Dr. Hunter has an extensive background in hospital operations; he has led many large-scale care delivery transformation initiatives including the development of multiple health and wellness centers, coordinated the closure and reorganization of multiple hospitals, developed robust post-acute care networks to support value-based care programs, and led innovative programs to support improvements in health outcomes among vulnerable and complex patient populations. His research focuses on healthy lifestyle management and chronic disease prevention among men of color. He specifically collaborates with African American fraternities to promote behavior change among members and the communities for which they serve. Dr. Hunter is also passionate about training and developing the next generation of healthcare professionals; he has held adjunct roles and teaches public health courses at the graduate level. He is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and is committed to community and public service.
