Shu-Fang (Ann) Shih, Ph.D., will join as assistant professor of health administration

Shih will join the College as assistant professor. She is current a research assistant professor at the Department of Health Management and Policy at Michigan School of Public Health, and she also serves as global health faculty affiliate in the School of Medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Shih was a tenured associate professor at one of the top public universities in Taiwan before she joined the University of Michigan faculty as a research assistant professor in September 2018.    
 
Shih has a diverse background in business administration, risk management and insurance, actuarial science and public health. She is a behavioral and policy researcher. Her research interests include social determinants of health, health literacy, maternal and child health, digital health solutions, implementation sciences, and program evaluation. Prior to receiving her Ph.D., she had more than 10 years of research experience working at the National Health Research Institutes. During that time, she used national insurance claims data and linked data sets to conduct health services research.  
 
“I am so excited to join the College of Health Professions at VCU as it really values an interdisciplinary approach,” said Shih. “I am excited about the opportunity to teach and mentor students while maintaining a strong emphasis on research. I also look forward to working closely with colleagues across different disciplines in advancing public engagement efforts and practice in health-related areas.”
 
Shih received her doctorate in health policy management from National Taiwan University; a Master of Science in health policy and management from Harvard University; a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Business Administration, both from National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan. Shih loves oil painting in her free time.
