Jon M. Thompson, Ph.D., FACHE
Dr. Jon M. Thompson is an experienced educator and researcher, and is Professor Emeritus and Director Emeritus in the program in Health Services Administration at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he served as program director and taught graduate and undergraduate courses in healthcare management for over two decades. He holds his Ph.D. in Health Services Organization and Research from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University, and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida State University.
Dr. Thompson has significant experience as a practitioner, having served in senior leadership in marketing and public relations at a large, hospital-based health system. Also, he served in a senior leadership role in market research at a medical rehabilitation consulting firm, and as a healthcare management consultant. He is an active researcher, and has presented and published widely on diverse administrative subjects, including marketing and business development, human resources management and teams, hospital financial and operational performance, and quality management.
He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and was recognized for his contributions to the field of health care leadership with a Leadership Award given by the ACHE Virginia Regent. Dr. Thompson has served as the Chair, Health Administration Press/Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) Undergraduate Editorial Board, as a member of AUPHA’s Board of Directors, as a member of ACHE’s Higher Education Committee, as a member of ACHE’s Health Administration Careers Task Force, as a member of the ACHE Regent’s Advisory Council in Virginia, and as Chair of the Health Administration Section of the American Public Health Association.
