Jan Clement, Ph.D., is the Cardwell Professor in the Department of Health Administration. Dr. Clement, who specializes in health care financial management, has been on the faculties of the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and University of Texas-Austin. Dr. Clement has published many articles about the financial performance of hospital firms, strategic alliances and subsidiaries of larger firms. She has also studied not-for-profit firms extensively, including the returns provided by not-for-profit acute care hospitals to communities, financial management tools for not-for-profit firms, and provision of charity care in the face of market competition. Recently, Dr. Clement has completed studies concerning the relationship of financial performance of skilled nursing facilities to their quality of care.
